Vardakas, MD, PhD<\/strong><br \/><strong>Specialist Pathologist<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>PhD in infectious diseases from the University of Crete Medical School (infection prevention)<\/strong><\/p><p>I was born and raised in Kozani. I graduated in 1996 from the 1st Lyceum of Kozani. Then I studied for 2 years at the Charles University School of Medicine in the Czech Republic and since 1998 at the School of Medicine of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens. I graduated in 2002.<\/p><p>Since 2004, after my field service, I participated in a series of research projects at the Alpha Institute of Biomedical Sciences (AIBE, www.aibs.gr) as a member of the Research Committee under the supervision of Professors M. Falagas and Prof. G. Samonis and Prof. G. Samonis. This was followed by a PhD thesis on the prevention of infections and in particular on fungal infections.<\/p><p>From 2006 to 2011 I worked at the General Hospital G. Gennimatas as a resident in Internal Medicine. During this period I continued my research activity by writing articles in international journals and participating in international conferences with original papers in microbial and fungal infections.<\/p><p>Since 2011 I worked with the SOS doctors and then with the \"iatrous katoikon\" and at the same time I worked as a Internal Medicine Specialist in the hospitals Henry Dunant, Iaso General and Mitera. I maintain a collaboration with Henry Durant Hospital Center and Medical Center of Palaio Faliro. Since November 2012 I started the operation of my private clinic in Palaio Faliro.<\/p><p>I firmly believe that in the practice of medicine, communication plays a major role, i.e. the mutual understanding of the patient's and the doctor's wishes and goals. Medicine is not an exact science, but a science of probability, and its potential, although rapidly evolving and improving in recent years, is not infinite. Sometimes developments are so rapid that today's knowledge may literally be overturned tomorrow. The recent coronavirus pandemic has shown us this, not only for this disease but for all other diseases.<\/p><p>The primary objective should not be to cure but to prevent disease. And this should be done with targeted tests and interventions, not with undocumented series of tests that can lead to undermining quality of life or even threaten life itself.<\/p><p>Hippocrates had
